-Zanzibar, Dar es-Salaam, and Mombasa are effectively one metropolitan area

-Dar es-Salaam's growth having to deal with it having a lot of the rail connections to Zanzibar

-Tabora was central to multiple trade routes, grew rapidly during Sultanate rule for that reason, and became center of railroads

-Marungu important for trading beyond the Great Lakes and into the Congo region, got railroads and all that

-likewise with Mwanza and Ujiji

-Nyangwe was the capital of the former
